Launch Your Paralegal Career with UNM Continuing Education
The UNMCE Paralegal Certificate course offers 112 hours of instruction and is designed for students who seek a broad overview of the legal system, legal research and other paralegal skills. The course will cover civil procedure and litigation, criminal procedure, evidence, interviewing, discovery, ethics, and legal research and writing.
This class is offered 5 times each year beginning January 14, 2013, and again in March, July, August and October, with an internship following each course.
Upon completion of the 8 week Paralegal Certificate course, students may apply for the 160 hour Internship. The focus of the internship is to place well-trained students in the legal community, either in private law offices or government agencies in order to further their paralegal education.
Since this program began in October 2008, 152 students have completed the Paralegal Certificate course; 62 students have completed an internship, and 46 students are currently employed as paralegals. Four of these students are currently enrolled in law school. Seven students are currently participating in an internship.
