Osher Members Free Lecture: Consumer Self-Defense
Anyone can be vulnerable to fraud or identity theft and the costs of identity theft or scams of any kind can be devastating to consumers. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. How many times have we heard this? Still, thousands of seniors each year are victims of identity theft, financial abuse and various forms of consumer fraud. The solicitation of home improvements, medical devices and other services and products, telemarketing and mail fraud, “International lottery” offers and other sweepstakes scams all target seniors in large numbers. Consumers need to be scam-smart and to learn how to recognize predatory activities as well as where to go and how to report if they’re a victim of these crimes.
This lecture, FREE to Osher Members and residents of Del Webb Alegria, will be held at the Del Webb Alegria Active Adult Community, 901 Cottonwood Circle, in Bernalillo from 7pm-9pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
