Architecture and Design Program for Teens

Do you know a teen ages 14-17 who loves to learn and create? Youth Programs at UNM Continuing Education, in partnership with the UNM School of Architecture and Planning will be providing new Architecture and Design classes specifically for teens. Check out one of the exciting architecture classes!

[h3]Intro to Digital Fabrication[/h3] Architecture-3
Have you heard of 3D printers and laser cutting? In this week-long program, high school students will use 2D fabrication tools at the School of Architecture and Planning to create design models, transfer them by computer to 3D files, learn how to print in 3D and produce work to use in a design portfolio.

When: July 22 – 27, 2013, 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Price: $350 per student

[h3]Intro to Energy Issues and Building Environments[/h3] Architecture-1
High schoolers interested in sustainability and energy efficient design will participate in a week’s worth of hands-on activities to learn the science of sustainability, compare traditional and sustainable building techniques, and explore solar design, photovoltaic panels, and LED lighting. In addition, they will build models and create a portfolio of their work.

When: July 22 – 27, 2013, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Price: $300 per student

[h3]Computer Modeling and Animation[/h3] Architecture-2
Over a week, high school students interested in design and animation will build their 3D perspective, use Sketch Up to create city blocks, learn the foundations of computer animation and develop their own animation and modeling portfolios.

When: July 29 – August 2, 2013, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Price: $300 per student

[h3]Architecture & Design Career Discovery Camp[/h3] camp-architecture
High school students will participate in a one-week studio workshop designed to tap their creativity and expose them to the field of architecture and other design disciplines. The program is centered around hands-on activities, fieldtrips and instruction by the Architecture faculty at the University of New Mexico. Students’ work will be displayed. Each student will also receive their own high-quality design kit.

When: July 29 – August 2, 2013, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Price: $320 per student
